Satapada is located at a distance of 48 KM from Puri. It is nearly 100 KM from the smart city .
This is the Irrawaddy dolphin and it’s heartening to note that there has been an increase in their number according to the CDA( Chilika Development Authority.)
In this year census, their population stands at 146 as against 113 last year. 18 teams equipped with Binoculars fitted with GPS, and Hydrophones were employed for the counting.
They were found at places such as Nalabana , Magarmukh, Jahnikuda, Mahisa, Rajhans , Malatikuda , Kalijai island and Satapada jetty . If you wish to spot them, the best option is to take a boat ride from satapada . There is a panthanivas at satapada where you can stay.
However , if you stay at Puri( only about 1 hour drive from Satpada), you will have the greater stay options. Those staying in Bhubaneswar or Puri can also make a day visit to Satapada . The forest department has an Eco- tour stay facility on the Rajhans island in Chilika, if you are looking for a unique stay experience close to the water.
