Do’s & Don’ts
• Consult lifeguards before entering the sea.
• Always swim or surf at places patrolled by lifesavers.
• Read safety signs.
• Swim in safe areas only.
• Swim with a friend.
• Be aware of blue bottle jellyfish, they might stings.
• Supervise children at all times.
• Dont go inside if u don’t Know how to swim.
• Watch for warning flags (and know what they mean).
• Watch for rip currents. Be aware of the waves.
• Use the dustbins and garbage receptacles for disposing all garbage and rubbish. Do not throw them in parks, on beaches, into the sea or public places. Please help keep the Odisha litter free.
• Never dive without knowing the depth of the water and never dive into shallow water.
• Don’t swim so far that you don’t have the energy to swim back to shore.
• Do not swim when drunk.
• Do not use plastic bags. Plastic carry-bags are banned in Odisha. If anybody is caught with a plastic carry-bag, he/she can be fined either or imprisoned for Certern period or both.
• Do not hunt any kind of birds and animals both on land and on sea. Please help us in preserving ocean-life at beach.
• Staying on beaches or forest areas overnight is strictly prohibited. Take care to return to your hotel or resort after sunset.
• Remember to carry a little cash always & keep yourself hydrated during noon time.
• The Gahirmatha Marine Wildlife Sanctuary is the only marine sanctuary of Orissa.
• Located within the close vicinity of the Bhitarkanika National Park is Odisha’s only Turtle Sanctuary. A part of the Gahirmatha Beach, the Turtle Sanctuary is the place where one can spot Olive Ridley Turtles.
• Gahirmatha Beach is located under the district of Kendrapara in the Indian state of Orissa. It extends from Dhamra River mouth in the north to Mahanadi River mouth in the south.
• Taking a boat ride across the river and gradually venturing into the wide sea is an experience ridden with sheer thrill and excitement.
• Gahirmatha Beach is an incredible beach location of Orissa that is famous for Olive Ridley sea turtles.
• The nearest airport is Bhubaneswar (75kms) and nearest railway station is Bhadrak (49kms). The closest highway is NH5 running from Kolkata to Chennai. While travelling by road you have to take NH5 from Bhubaneswar on to Cuttack, Kendrapara and Rajnagar.
• It is a fascinating experience to watch these creatures crawling out of the deep sea, labouring, selecting a site, digging holes, laying almost 200 eggs, covering the area and crawling back to the sea all within a mere 45 minutes! For this unforgettable experience, a visit to Gahirmatha is a must.
